RASA FESTIVAL, 2017: A FESTIVAL CELEBRATING THE INFLUENCE OF THE INDIAN SUBCONTINENT IN ARTS AND CULTURE

Akshara, a non-profit arts organization based in Ann Arbor, Michigan, is delighted to announce a call for art submissions for this year’s first annual Rasa Festival in August-September 2017. The festival focuses on the theme of “Rasa”, an ancient concept in Indian aesthetics. Works should be inspired by the Indian subcontinent or Southeast Asia in some way. Rasa Festival is a multi-disciplinary arts festival held at multiple local venues such as Cafe Verde, Kerrytown Concert Hall, Riverside Arts Center Gallery, Michigan Theater, Argus Farm Stand and White Lotus Farms. This year’s Rasa Festival exhibitions will be curated by Christina Burch, www.christinaburch.com and all are welcome to submit work for consideration.
To be considered, artwork must be influenced by South Asian culture in some way. The exhibit is emphasizing the theme of “Rasa”, a concept from Indian aesthetics. Please include a brief artist’s statement describing the influences and inspirations for the work.
Artists must be responsible for delivery and pick up and any insurance of the artwork.
Artwork must include framing, hardware etc. and be ready for installation.
All media shall be considered (painting, sculpture, video art, installation, textiles, etc.).
Works in progress will be considered with attached explanations.
All submissions should be received by midnight on July 15, 2017.
Works not yet exhibited are especially welcome.
Collaborative projects are also welcome.
All artwork must be sent via e-mail to: email@example.com.
The artwork should be accompanied by the artist’s name, e-mail, and phone number. The subject line of the submission MUST read: Entry for Rasa.The artwork should be presented as clear, high resolution images (ideally 1800 pixels on the largest side at 300 ppi). The file name should read: last name-title.
All images must include: Artist’s full Name,Title, Size, Medium, Price or “Private Collection”, and Year completed.
The email should include the artist’s full name, e-mail address, mailing address, telephone number and website if applicable.
A brief artist’s statement about the piece should be included as mentioned above.
The brief artist’s resume or bio should be included.
All written information is best written or pasted directly in email.
Some of our venues retain a commission on all works sold and others let the artist handle any sales. All sold work shall remain in the exhibit until the exhibition ends. If your work is selected, we will let you know the details for the particular venue.
